Learn a Tut!

Dance > Geometry

Description

“Tutting” is a dance where movements are based on geometric angles and shapes. Follow along with dance artist Louise and learn a “Tut” combination.

Materials

  • A small area of personal space.

Activity Notes

  • Tutting offers students the opportunity to explore the expansive topic of geometry. Within the Tutting dance, students are invited to identify what shapes (quadrilaterals, triangles) and angles (obtuse, right, acute) they see. Students can also describe how they move using correct terminology (translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations).

Artist Notes

  • Students are challenged to extend this combination or create their own Tut with original movement ideas.
  • Tutting can also be applied to the Social Studies Ancient Civilizations curriculum by representing Hieroglyphics through Dance.
