Learn a Procedural Writing Dance!

Dance > Writing

Description

Join dance artist Joanna and learn a dance about procedural writing, verbs, and synonyms.

Materials

  • A small area of personal space.

Activity Notes

  • This activity uses procedural writing as the basis for creating a dance phrase. Using the idea of brushing teeth, the verbs are identified and adapted using exciting and dynamic synonyms. Movements are then assigned to the verbs to create an “order of operations” dance phrase.

Artist Notes

  • Students are challenged to create their own procedure. Students in grades 1-2 can use the attached samples of making pizza and making lemonade. Students in grades 3-6 can use the attached recipe outline.
  • Try creating a procedure using antonyms for your verbs. Perform your dance with your synonyms and antonyms.
